Where it is used
An LCD-TV power system has three blocks:
- The supply unit
- The DC/AC inverter
- Signal processing
The supply unit is a PFC pre-regulator, a main DC/DC and a standby converter. It turns 85–265 V AC into 24 V, 12 V, 5 V and 3.3 V.
The 24 V or 12 V rail feeds the backlight inverter and the signal chain. The 5 V or 3.3 V standby rail feeds the standby circuits and the microcontroller.
The DC/AC inverter then turns 24 V or 12 V into a high AC voltage, on the order of 1200 V, for the backlight.
